The Paris Peace Accords, also known as the “Agreement on Ending the War and Restoring Peace in Vietnam”, was signed on January 27, 1973, to end the Vietnam War.

The agreement was signed by the leaders of the United States, the Republic of Vietnam, the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, and the Viet Cong/Provisional Revolutionary Government.
The agreement included the following key elements:
A cease-fire would begin at midnight on January 27, 1973
The United States would stop all military activities against the Democratic Republic of Vietnam
The United States would remove all mines from the territorial waters, ports, harbors, and waterways of North Vietnam
U.S. forces and all foreign troops would withdraw from South Vietnam within 60 days
American prisoners would be released at the same time as the withdrawal of American troops
However, fighting resumed before the last American combat troops left the country on March 29, 1973. Some factors that contributed to the pressure to find a peaceful solution to the war included public criticism, the financial cost, and world politics.
